Aesthetic Amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of those place that you 'must' visit in the world. With it's picturesque scenery and unique culture it's an experience that you will never forget. In this blog I'll be writing about my top five attractions around the city and giving them a rating out of ten.

1. Van Gogh Museum 9/10 ~ Amsterdam is known for museums but the one on the top of the list to visit when staying in the city is the Van Gogh Museum. The museum is dedicated to the most famous Dutch artist and his work. There you can find his most famous piece such as Sunflowers, Self Portait, The Bed, The Yellow House and many more. The one you will not find in the museum is Starry Night, as it's located in the MET, New York City. When visiting the museum I highly recommend hiring an audio set. It goes through with you the story behind most paintings and Vincent Van Gogh's complex life story. If you are looking for some culture, something very Dutch or something to tick off the bucket list, go to the muesum.

2. Floating Tulip Market 7/10 ~ The Floating Tulip might not be the pretty site in Amsterdam if I'm honest with you but it's a fabulous area to explore and has some great food. The market itself is a good spot to buy good old souvenirs or of course tulip bulbs that are there by the hundreds. My favourite purchase (and got a pair for myself for some fun!!) are soft slipper clogs! At the end of the market (with the bell tower) there is one shop you definitely need to visit, the 'Chipsy King'! They have the best hot chips in Amsterdam, quote possibly the best I've tried!! Make sure to try their garlic mayo which is located on the tables but don't make the mistake of the red sauce being ketchup, it's hot chilli sauce and a trap for new players!! If you're there for lunch, their Turkish pizza is really nice with lettuce and red onion.

8/10 ~ 3. Exploring the canals The one thing you have to do when visiting Amsterdam is explore the canals! It's must as they are located everywhere and make the city with the Jordaan area being the prettiest. They are fun to explore and there is always a great photo opportunities for your social media. But make sure you have a map!!! As every canal looks the same and it's quite easy to get lost .........

6/10 ~ 4. Renting bikes. Now, I have never done this but a lot of people do. The Dutch have roads/paths that are dedicated to bikes around the city and this seems like a good idea. Also bike rentals are quite reasonable. This a great way to explore the city and see what it's like being a local as everyone in Amsterdam rides a bike, however, they do seem to ride quite aggressively (even when it's wet and slippery) so it might not be easy taking a leisurely ride.

I hope you like my top five things that you should see/do in Amsterdam. However, here is a list of things you should know about the city.

~ BIKES!! Everyone in Amsterdam owns and rides a bike. Also they own the road!!! Be careful walking around as they have right-of-way over predestines and cars.

~ Weed is legalized in the Netherlands and you can smell it everywhere.

~ The Dutch eat sprinkles on their toast among the other different foods.

~ It's better to visit in spring or summer as in autumn and winter it seems to rain all the time.

~ A place to buy coffee is a cafe. A place to smoke weed is called a coffeeshop.

~ Good idea to have a map on you as every canal looks the same.

~ The Dutch LOVE orange

~ Make sure to go to a supermarket as you will find amazing food for unbelievable prices

~ The Dutch are really nice people and love to have a good chat :)

That's it for this one!! To rap up, I would definitely recommend visiting Amsterdam! It's such a cool, funky city and there is no place like it!!!
